You learnt to drive on a moped
50 cc’s of freedom
As a young man on two wheels
You’re vulnerable, unsure.
There was a young woman
And you smashed her heart
You put on your helmet
And just rode away.
So then you got a car
And maybe you were more aware
Of the blind spots
Because you were hurt before.
But now you’re invincible
Protected by this shell
Not open to the elements
No frozen hair icicle
But you were never hurt from the outside
Attack came from within
The seat belt across your heart
Only choked you and whipped your neck
So now you never step foot in a car
Just remain in the walls of the house
Where no on-comer or passenger can strike
Now it’s you and someone else.
